Haven retires after 11 years as associate dean, 38 years at UNMC
She moves like white lightening, bolting down the hall so fast it seems she’s miles away before anyone else takes a step. Today, Mary Haven, associate dean of UNMC’s School of Allied Health Professions, will stop to celebrate the past 38 years at UNMC. Haven’s retirement party is today from 1:30 to 4 p.m. in the private dining rooms.

Dental day in Panhandle helps children, tests telehealth system
During the three years the UNMC College of Dentistry has taken Children’s Dental Day to the Panhandle, more than 500 children have received care and nearly $300,000 worth of services have been provided.

National AHEC conference comes to Omaha
The National Area Health Education Center Organization’s (NAO) bi-annual conference will be held June 10-14 at the Qwest Convention Center in Omaha. The NAO conference is expected to draw 500 participants from around the country and is being hosted by the Nebraska AHEC Program Office at UNMC.

Study looks at wheat allergies in infants
A study released in this month’s journal Pediatrics issues a strong challenge to the notion that babies should be exclusively breastfed, and not given any solid foods, during the first six months of life. Jill Poole, M.D., assistant professor in the pulmonary, critical care, sleep and allergy section of the department of internal medicine at UNMC, is lead author of the study.
