Fred Wilson to speak at disaster behavioral health conference
The Von Maur shootings. The Little Sioux tornado. The storms of June 27, 2008. All of the above incidents are reminders of fatal disasters that could potentially cause psychiatric problems such as post-traumatic stress disorder. On July 18, mental health professionals will gather to attend the sixth annual Nebraska Disaster Behavioral Health Conference and discuss the psychological aspects of dealing with such disasters and other mass casualty situations.

GWR Sunshine Foundation becomes Autism Action Partnership
Seven years ago, the GWR Sunshine Foundation, founded by Gail Werner-Robertson and her husband, Scott, hosted its first fundraiser for autism awareness. About $15,000 was raised. Fast-forward to 2008. A silent and oral auction dinner and subsequent golf tournament held earlier this month raised more than $500,000 for the cause.

UNMC Off the Clock — To Barbara Harrison, life’s a ‘square’ dance
Confined to her hospital bed, unable to walk due to an automobile accident that injured her husband and killed the family’s dog, Barbara Harrison thought one thing. It wasn’t about being ejected from the pickup she was driving or about being life-flighted to the hospital.
Instead, it was, “I’m lucky to have my leg and my life. Now, how long before I can dance again?”
