Eppley researcher lays groundwork for identifying breast cancer genes
Jim Shull, Ph.D., a professor at UNMC’s Eppley Institute for Research in Cancer and Allied Diseases, was recently introduced at the University of California-Berkeley as the man who made the ACI rat famous.
In a series of studies published over the past five years, Dr. Shull and colleagues have demonstrated that the ACI rat provides a valuable experimental model for studying the mechanisms through which estrogens induce breast cancer development.

As chairman of UNMC’s internal medicine department, John Gollan, M.D., Ph.D., oversees a department whose population size exceeds some small towns in Nebraska.
To better manage this vast department, Dr. Gollan has established an Executive Council to assist him in policy-making decisions, provide feedback and serve as contacts on issues ranging from education to research to primary care.

UNMC/NHS to celebrate Dress Red Day Feb. 14
There should be more wearin’ of the red than usual at UNMC/NHS on Valentine’s Day as the American Heart Association holds it second annual Dress Red Day in the Omaha metro.
Dress Red Day is part of the American Heart Association’s observance of American Heart Month, which is this month. NHS is sponsoring this year’s event. UNMC is one of more than 20 Metro-area companies participating.
