Longtime employee of Eppley Institute, David Heard, dies
David Heard, a 34-year employee of the Eppley Institute, died Sunday, Oct. 27. He was 67. Heard joined the Eppley Institute as the animal care facility supervisor in July 1968, a role he remained in until retiring this past April.

Homeland Security director to visit UNMC Friday
Office of Homeland Security Director Tom Ridge will visit Nebraska Friday for briefings on homeland security efforts, including bioterrorism-related projects at UNMC. Ridge, former governor of Pennsylvania, was appointed to his federal position following the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

Outside firm to assist with UNMC employee satisfaction survey
Employees soon will be asked to complete a confidential survey that looks at UNMC’s working environment. UNMC has retained Career Design, Inc., to assist with its 2002 employee satisfaction survey. UNMC names new research center in honor of Charles Durham
In recognition of his generous gift, UNMC has named its newest research building in honor of Omaha philanthropist Charles Durham.
The announcement was made Wednesday during a ceremony in the facility that will bear the Durham name. The facility — formerly the Research Center of Excellence — will now be called the Durham Research Center. The adjoining plaza area – 45th Street from Emile Street to Dewey Avenue and Dewey Avenue from 45th Street to 44th Street — also was named the Durham Research Plaza.
