HIPAA, the “Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996,” provides federal protection of patient health information. As part of our continuing efforts to educate employees, these HIPAA-related messages will be distributed the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month.
Today’s HIPAA message is about disclosing personal health information to external registries.

NU to sponsor ‘Kids Run the Ballpark Night’

Dr. Krobot named Associate Dean for Academic Affairs in the College of Pharmacy

Charles Krobot was a registered pharmacist in the early 1980s when he was presented with the opportunity to take more classes and earn his Doctor of Pharmacy degree. He wasn’t sure what he was getting into, but he decided to “take the plunge.” He earned his Pharm.D. in 1984, and soon thereafter became one of the first pharmacists “on the floor” at Clarkson Hospital, overseeing a satellite pharmacy that prepared chemotherapy medications for cancer patients.

Nearly 20 years later, Dr. Krobot is taking another proverbial leap. After nearly 30 years as a clinical pharmacist and serving for the past three years as a part-time instructor in the College of Pharmacy, Dr. Krobot on July 1 began his new position as associate dean for academic affairs in the college.

2002 Olympic star to shine on 2003 Transplant Reunion

Olympic bronze medallist Chris Klug will meet with fellow organ transplant recipients at the NHS/UNMC Transplant Reunion on July 12, 2003. Klug is the first American with an organ transplant to ever compete in the Olympic Games.

Dr. Paulman to lead Faculty Senate

Politics, said Prussian statesman Otto Von Bismarck, is the art of the possible.

That capability to facilitate change is one reason Paul Paulman, M.D., first became involved in the UNMC Faculty Senate, in 1997. This month, he became the senate’s president, a position that he’ll hold for one year.
