UNMC Travel Services announces changes to the travel policy

As result of a renegotiated contract, all United Airlines Business and Companion fares purchased through the Travel & Transport Web site will have no transaction fee. The new rate, which was $10 per ticket, went into effect Jan. 1 and will remain in effect until June 30. See article for additional details.

UNMC nuclear medicine student dies in accident

Laurie M. Schaefer, a student in the Nuclear Medicine Program at UNMC, died Saturday, Jan. 3, in a one-vehicle accident in Lincoln. Schaefer had completed one semester in the Nuclear Medicine Program, which is part of the School of Allied Health Professions’ Radiation Science Technology Division.

Thomas H. Rosenquist, Ph.D., vice chancellor for research at UNMC, has announced that Paula B. Turpen, Ph.D., has accepted the newly created position of associate vice chancellor for research. She will assume her new post March 1.

Omaha-based foundation presents research award to UNMC physician-scientist

An Omaha-based medical research foundation has awarded a UNMC physician-scientist a $20,000 research award to study whether intravenous microbubbles and ultrasound can be used to alter the permeability of the “blood brain barrier.” Thomas Porter, M.D., a professor of cardiology at UNMC, received the research award from “Julia’s Hope: The Sanfilippo Syndrome Medical Research Foundation Inc.”
