Old hospital e-mail extension being eliminated

Beginning Feb. 27, any incoming e-mail to the The Nebraska Medical Center using the old “nhsnet.org” extension will be returned as undeliverable.

Living the dream as one race, one nation

America doesn’t have a race problem, it has a reasoning problem that is blocking Martin Luther King Jr.’s dream of equality, said an acclaimed journalist and talk show host. Regardless of skin color, there is only one race: the human race, Tony Brown told the audience commemorating the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday Monday in the lower Storz Pavilion.

“Night of a Thousand Stars” event at UNMC raises more than $14,500

More than $14,500 was raised at the UNMC-sponsored event during the annual “Night of a Thousand Stars” celebration, which took place Dec. 6 in Omaha. The $14,582 raised at UNMC went to the Nebraska AIDS Project (NAP). In all, NAP received more than $430,000 from the night’s festivities.

Regents approve new cGMP facility

Patients with cancer, diabetes and liver failure will find hope in a new facility on the UNMC campus designed to advance innovative therapies. The University of Nebraska Board of Regents Saturday approved a proposal to renovate an existing building on the UNMC campus for a new, 11,825 square foot current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) Transplant Production Facility.

The University of Nebraska Board of Regents is seeking candidates for the position of president of the University of Nebraska. Review of applications will begin on Feb. 15, and continue until a candidate is selected.

Employees turn out for holiday blood drive

Forty-one units of blood were collected during the UNMC Blood Drive on Dec. 31. As a result, donors assisted as many as 123 patients in need.

Retired UNMC employee, Sharon Lewis, dies

Retired UNMC employee Sharon Lewis died Sunday. An administrative tech in cashiering, Lewis joined UNMC in December 1980 and retired this past October. Services are Thursday.
