Life at the Buduburam Refugee Camp

Valda Boyd Ford, director of UNMC’s Community and Multicultural Affairs, has spent the past three weeks at the 140-acre Buduburam Refugee Camp, the largest camp in Ghana with roughly 42,000 people. Since her arrival, Ford has kept in touch with UNMC colleagues via e-mail, thanks to an Internet cafe near her “hotel” bungalow. UNMC Today will share some of Ford’s experiences at the Buduburam Refugee Camp, beginning today with some of her initial observations.

Soldier returns from Iraq, graduates from College of Pharmacy

While his classmates graduated from the College of Pharmacy in May 2003, Bob Moser, Pharm.D., commanded convoys of U.S. trucks between Kuwaiti ports and troops in Iraq. A year and a half later, Dr. Moser received his doctor of pharmacy degree at UNMC’s winter commencement ceremonies.

Sawyer Brown to perform at 2005 Cattlemen’s Ball

The country rock group Sawyer Brown will be featured at the 2005 Cattlemen’s Ball of Nebraska on Saturday, June 4, at the Herb Albers Feedlot six miles north of Wisner, Neb. The Cattlemen’s Ball is the premier fund-raising event for cancer research at the UNMC Eppley Cancer Center.

No evidence contamination stems from Nebraska lab

Recent stories in the Boston Globe about three Boston University researchers who became infected last year with tularemia allege the contamination came from a lab at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. That’s not the case, said officials at UNL and UNMC, which comprise the University of Nebraska Center for Biosecurity.
