The stories of human suffering in the Gulf Coast area have hit close to home for many in the Midlands who have family, memories and ties to the area. Counselors with the UNMC Faculty/Employee Assistance Program are available to employees who are having difficulty dealing with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

Red Cross representatives on campus today

Representatives of the American Red Cross will be on the UNMC campus today from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. outside the Nebraska Cafe for employees interested in contributing to the hurricane relief effort. Transplant patients find safe haven at med center

Denise Breaux and her 3-year-old daughter Bailey were on the sixth floor of Tulane Hospital when Hurricane Katrina crashed ashore. The young girl received a liver, small bowel and pancreas transplant from UNMC in 2002. On Tuesday, Breaux and two other transplant families said thanks to the medical center family that has rescued them more than once.

Accreditation consultant to be on campus Sept. 15

A consultant/representative from the association that will re-accredit UNMC will be on campus on Thursday, Sept. 15. Robert Appleson, Ph.D, associate director of the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCA), will meet with campus officials and accreditation leaders during his one-day visit. UNMC is an accredited member of the NCA.
