Midtown block party and fireworks show on tap tonight
Destination Midtown will host its second annual Summer Block Party today at Field Club School, 3512 Walnut St., from 4:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. The party preceeds the Midtown Fireworks Show, which starts at 10 p.m. Admission to the block party is free.

Five 40-year-employees honored at service awards dinner
It was 1967 — the year of “The Summer of Love,” the release of the Beatles’ “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” and Cassius Clay being stripped of his heavyweight boxing title for refusing to join the Army. It also was the year five current UNMC employees began working at the medical center.

Pediatric cardiologist, Paul Mooring, M.D., dies
Paul Mooring, M.D., longtime director of pediatric cardiology at UNMC, died June 13, 2007, at his home on Swan Lake, Mont. He was 83.
