Chairman of UNMC Department of Pharmacology announced

Howard Gendelman, M.D., David T. Purtilo Distinguished Chair of Pathology and Microbiology and director of the Center for Neurovirology and Neurodegenerative Diseases (CNND), has been named chairman of the department of pharmacology in the UNMC’s College of Medicine. The appointment is effective Sept. 1, according to John Gollan, M.D. Ph.D., College of Medicine dean.

Radio commercials spotlight UNMC’s education, outreach

UNMC will launch its spring series of radio commercials today in Omaha, Lincoln and select stations across Nebraska. The three commercials will focus on UNMC’s education and outreach missions by highlighting the College of Nursing’s Distance Learning Program, the College of Dentistry’s Dental Day and the GOODLIFE Clinic, which is operated by an interdisciplinary team of students.

As a continuation of UNMC’s fall/winter image commercials, a two-week flight of radio commercials can be heard on radio stations in Omaha, Lincoln and across the state. The commercials, which highlight UNMC’s research, began airing Monday.

UNMC Chancellor Harold M. Maurer, M.D., recently visited the Nebraska communities of Cozad, Lexington and Holdrege. Sandy Goetzinger-Comer, director of public affairs, and Dan Chambers, program coordinator for the Rural Health Education Network, joined him on the July 31 and Aug. 1 trip.

Have you heard? New set of UNMC radio commercials begin

On Monday, UNMC kicked off its second round of radio ads. The ads, which will air the weeks of March 11, 18 and 25, feature the following topics and individuals:

  • Research on diabetes — Jennifer Larsen, M.D., with comments from patient Richard McConnell of Omaha;
  • Research in the genetics of learning disabilities — Shelley Smith, Ph.D., and;
  • Research on rheumatoid arthritis — James O’Dell, M.D., with comments from patient Anne Ivey of Omaha.
