Heart walk May 7 to honor survivors, raise funds

The 2005 Omaha-Metro American Heart Walk is set for Saturday, May 7 at Chalco Hills Recreation area around Wehrspann Lake. Approximately 2,000 people are expected to participate in the 10th annual event.

Accessing eldercare services event for employees Dec. 7

More than 25 percent of American families are involved in some way with elder/parent care. Many of them also are juggling full-time job responsibilities. The challenges of this can be overwhelming.

UNMC employees can learn more about caring for elderly parents, relatives and friends and the coordinated services available at UNMC, University Medical Associates (UMA) and The Nebraska Medical Center at an eldercare event on Tuesday, Dec. 7 in the Eppley Science Hall.

Airport ad spotlights the Durham Research Center

Thousands of travelers flying into Omaha are becoming familiar with a new building on the city’s landscape – the Durham Research Center at UNMC. Hawkins Construction Company is showcasing the DRC in two four-by-six foot backlit signs in the north and south terminal walkways of Eppley Airport.

Nearly 100 college students are expected to be on the UNMC campus Friday for the Third Annual Scholars Day. Students will learn about health care education, as well as what UNMC academic programs have to offer.

UNMC, neighbors work together on apartment complex

There were some pleasant results when UNMC planners worked with the neighborhood association in designing a new 60-unit student apartment complex. After consulting with Blackstone Neighborhood Association members, architects came up with a better building design for the units near 38th Avenue and Jones Street and the neighbors are much happier.
