UNMC’s goal: Garner national media
UNMC wants to be a player in the national media, and it’s implementing a strategic plan to make it happen. That was the message from Chancellor Harold M. Maurer, M.D., on Tuesday during the standing-room-only Chancellor’s Forums.

Chancellor’s forums scheduled for July 26
Faculty and staff will have the opportunity on Tuesday, July 26, to learn about the recent increases in salaries and retirement benefits, as well as information on the campus’s efforts in garnering national media, a new automated system for sick and vacation leave, and changes to UNMC’s Thank ‘U’ award program.

Salaries, retirement plan contributions to increase July 1
UNMC employees will see increases in their paychecks and in the university’s contribution to their retirement plans, after the beginning of the new fiscal year on July 1. See story for details.

Several UNMC faculty and students were instrumental in a new clerkship guide that assists students as they participate in family medicine rotations. Paul Paulman, M.D., professor in UNMC’s Department of Family Medicine, is the editor-in-chief of the textbook.

Thank ‘U’ program being reviewed, but will continue
Because of a recent clarification by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), a moratorium has been placed on the practice of exchanging medallions for cash value certificates as part of the UNMC Thank ‘U’ Program.

Plans call to raise tuition by 5 percent
At its meeting Saturday, the University of Nebraska Board of Regents will consider a 5 percent tuition increase for the 2005-2006 school year.

University accreditation process kicks off
When John Benson, M.D., reads the criteria on which UNMC’s accreditation application will be judged, he can’t help but note the similarities to UNMC’s strategic plan. Over the next 1 1/2 years, the campus will undergo a self-evaluation in hopes of receiving a full, 10-year re-accreditation.

Dr. Reddish receives Preceptor of the Year Award
Just two years removed from pharmacy school, Joel C. Reddish, Pharm.D., knows well what students seek to gain from their clerkship experiences with practicing pharmacists.
Dr. Reddish transferred that knowledge into practice – during his first year as a preceptor – to earn the 2005 Preceptor of the Year Award.
