College of Medicine celebrates 125th anniversary

On June 14, 1881, a group of 19th Century physicians incorporated the medical college that is now the UNMC College of Medicine. Some 125 years later, the College of Medicine is celebrating its quasquicentennial with a series of celebratory activities and events planned to recognize this historic occasion.

Dr. Marky earns Outstanding Mentor of Graduate Faculty Award

For Luis Marky, Ph.D., being a mentor is a lot like being a parent: You need to know when to push them to do better work, and you need to know when to have a little fun. Dr. Marky’s firm-yet-caring approach to teaching his students has earned him a reputation as one of the best faculty mentors on campus. He will be recognized Tuesday at the Annual Faculty Meeting, which will begin at 4 p.m. in the Durham Research Center auditorium.

Physical therapy education receives University-wide award

On Thursday, the division was honored with the University-wide Departmental Teaching Award, given to a department within the University of Nebraska that has made unique and significant contributions to teaching.

Neuroimmune pharmacology is a rapidly growing scientific field, and a new journal spearheaded by UNMC’s Department of Pharmacology and Experimental Neuroscience is at the field’s forefront. The “Journal of Neuroimmune Pharmacology” was first published last month.
