Search committee to identify candidates for College of Nursing dean
UNMC Chancellor Harold M. Maurer, M.D., has appointed a 13-person search committee to identify candidates for the position of the UNMC College of Nursing dean. Ada Lindsey, Ph.D., announced earlier this month that she will retire from the position, effective July 31, 2003.

UNMC to lease space at Scott Technology Transfer and Incubator Center
Cutting-edge research that UNMC will conduct at a business incubator in Omaha has the potential to lead to promising product developments. Under an agreement approved Friday by the NU Board of Regents, UNMC will lease 8,309 square feet of space at the Scott Technology Transfer and Incubator Center.

Internationally renowned researcher joins ophthalmology faculty
Toshimichi Shinohara, Ph.D., admits he didn’t know much about Nebraska, much less the University of Nebraska Medical Center, when a colleague mentioned that he may want to explore possibilities in Omaha.
A couple of months into his role as a researcher and professor in the department of ophthalmology, Dr. Shinohara is excited about the next decade’s promise for his research at UNMC.

Medical technologist enjoys role in smaller hospital
In addition to her role as a medical technologist at Kearney County Health
Services in Minden, Laura Horner also administers electrocardiograms and X-rays of patients.
Horner can fill all of the positions at the Kearney County hospital, in
part, because of a distance education opportunity that is provided by UNMC.

Dr. Maurer discusses budget reductions with employees
UNMC will come through the latest round of budget cuts without losing its trajectory toward becoming a world-class academic health sciences center, Chancellor Harold M. Maurer, M.D., told employees Thursday.
“We will continue to be an academic medical center on the move,” Dr. Maurer said. “That’s our position.”

Northern Nebraska Area Health Education Center formed
A health education center will be formed over the next year to address health-care needs in 22 counties in northern Nebraska, as part of a federal grant that has been awarded to UNMC. The Northern Nebraska Area Health Education Center (NN-AHEC) will be centered in Norfolk.
