UNMC pharmacy students are traveling to six rural communities in Nebraska this school year, providing health screens designed to identify possible problems in participants before negative consequences occur.

Blood drive at UNMC on Dec. 31; reserves in short supply

Several factors figure to be detrimental to the region’s blood supply this holiday season, but UNMC employees will have the opportunity to enhance the blood supply on Wednesday, Dec. 31 at the Center for Healthy Living. The campus will host a special blood drive from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The blood drive, originally scheduled to end at 11:30 a.m., was extended for two hours because of the current need for blood. Employees can sign up by clicking here or by contacting the Center for Healthy Living at 559-5254.

Regents to consider program statement for educational vision

UNMC is proposing to construct the Center for Health Science Education Building. The University of Nebraska Board of Regents will consider a program statement for the new building at its meeting on Saturday, Dec. 13. No state tax dollars will be used for construction of the building.

Sponsors vital to Saturday’s ‘Stars’ event; tickets still available

ESPN and UNMC may not have much in common, but they’re both important to Paul Griego, proprietor at Pauli’s Sports and Spirits at 41st and Leavenworth streets. Griego also has been a neighbor to UNMC for more than two decades, and he said he feels as if he’s part of the Med Center.

SimplyWell sign-up card can be downloaded, openings remain

Eligible UNMC employees who wish to participate in the SimplyWell program can now download the sign-up card by clicking here. Participants should print out the card, fill out the appropriate portion and send it to ZIP 7424. Participants will then receive a Personal Wellness Profile, through intercampus mail, to confirm their participation.

Durham Research Center dedication set for Nov. 13

UNMC will open the doors soon to a 10-level, state-of-the-art research building. The $77 million Durham Research Center, built almost exclusively with private funds, will hold its dedication ceremony at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 13. A public open house is scheduled from 1 to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 16.

Relationship with NAP benefits UNMC, patients with HIV/AIDS

UNMC’s strong relationship with the Nebraska AIDS Project (NAP) is important to the university in several ways, the medical director of the UNMC HIV Clinic says. NAP is the beneficiary of the annual “Night of a Thousand Stars” celebration. This year’s 11th annual celebration will take place on Dec. 6.
