More students are attending UNMC this fall, and the incoming students are of exceptional quality, the campus’s chief academic officer said today. This fall, 2,904 students are enrolled at UNMC, an increase of 39 students (1.4 percent) from fall 2003.

About every two seconds, someone in the United States needs a blood transfusion. On Thursday, Sept. 23, employees at UNMC and its hospital partner, The Nebraska Medical Center, will have the opportunity to give blood so that others may have the opportunity to live.

Burger King, UNMC team to fight childhood cancer

Burger King Restaurants in the Omaha and Council Bluffs metro area have teamed with the University of Nebraska Foundation to support childhood cancer research at UNMC. The “BK Beat Cancer for Kids” promotion is running during the month of July at 39 Burger King restaurants in Omaha and Council Bluffs. The program is an extension of Liz’s Legacy, a fund to advance cancer research and care at the UNMC Eppley Cancer Center.

Funding strengthens University’s terrorism response efforts

The University of Nebraska has received more than $750,000 to improve its terrorism preparedness infrastructure. The Critical Infrastructure Protection Funds were awarded recently through the Nebraska Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the State Homeland Security Policy Group.
