The 2023 Innovators in Education E-Learning Showcase was held in-person last month, the first time since 2019. The live event drew more than 100 people from across all colleges, including multiple deans.
A digital course of the projects was made available following the showcase for UNMC faculty, staff and students who were unable to attend.

Attendees both in person and in the digital course were able to vote for the top modules. More than 400 people voted, and three development teams were awarded top honors, including:
- First Place: “Codependency and Family Dynamics”
Developed by Linda Sobeski, PharmD, and Ashley Meacham and Carissa Wilson from the UNMC College of Pharmacy - Second Place and E-Learning Scorecard Best Practices: “Stitching It Up: A Medical Student’s Guide to Suturing”
Developed by Olabisi Sheppard, MD, Micah Holloway, Shea Jeffres and Kelsey Tieken, MD, from the UNMC College of Medicine - Third Place: “Bioinformatics of Gene Expression Repositories”
Developed by Jordan Rowley, PhD, Achyuth Kalluchi and Sahil Sethi from UNMC Graduate Studies
“Building an e-module was an entirely unique experience, and it was exciting to see our ideas come to life throughout the process,” said Meacham, a student who helped develop the winning module. “I highly recommend getting involved with the E-Learning Program and would happily participate again.”
Fellow participant Shea Jeffres agreed. “E-module development is a fun and challenging experience. This program really encouraged us to identify a gap in our education and fill the need by creating an interactive resource that students and educators would find valuable,” Jeffres said. “Learning the elements that make an online learning resource be successful is something that we can take into our careers as educators in the medical profession. This is an experience I look forward to participating in again.”
“I liked the whole process of e-learning development,” student developer Achyuth Kalluchi said. “It was a new experience for me and made me grateful and appreciative of the efforts people put in to create such modules for the betterment of learners.”
Participants also appreciated the showcase being live once again. “The in-person showcase was a fantastic way to show others what we had been working on all semester,” Meacham said. “I loved being able to answer questions about our module and have conversations about how this topic can apply to everyone. Many people that stopped by suggested the module could be used in other programs.”
