UNMC students, faculty and staff are invited to participate in UNMC’s De-Stress Week celebration, which runs all next week. De-Stress Week will include free breakfast, tie-dye, fitness classes and more.
The De-Stress Week events on the Omaha campus are:
Monday, April 24:
- Yogurt station, 7:45 a.m., Durham Research Center Commons Area – Start Monday off with free breakfast. A yogurt station with a variety of yogurt and toppings will be available (while supplies last).
- Yoga, 12 p.m., Center for Healthy Living — Join yoga instructor and therapist Devashree Patel, PhD, for an hour-long relaxing yoga session incorporating deep stretching and breathing. This free class is sponsored by the Center for Healthy Living. Pre-registration is not required. Those attending will need to check in five minutes prior to class at the front desk.
Tuesday, April 25:
- Student snack break, 10 a.m., McGoogan Health Sciences Library, sixth floor by the AskUs desk — The McGoogan Library staff will provide healthy snacks for students, so take a study break and grab a snack (while supplies last). In addition to snacks, there will be a basketball “stress hoop” for students to jot down and then toss away any pent-up stress. Paper and pens will be provided, and library staff will recycle stressors at the end of the day.
- Walking tacos, 12 p.m., Sorrell Center Alumni Commons, second floor – Stop by for a free lunch. A walking taco bar complete with meat, beans, chips and toppings will be available (while supplies last).
Wednesday, April 26:
- UNMC tie-dye T-shirts, 11:30 a.m., Ruth and Bill Scott Student Plaza, green space — Create a UNMC tie-dye T-shirt (while supplies last). In case of rain, this activity will be moved into the Sorrell Center, Alumni Commons, second floor.
- Snack break, 3 p.m., Durham Research Center Commons Area – It’s National Pretzel Day, so stop by and celebrate. There will be a variety of individually packaged pretzel snacks to choose from (while supplies last).
Thursday, April 27:
- Pups and Popsicles, 11 a.m., Ruth and Bill Scott Student Plaza, green space — Grab a popsicle (while supplies last) and pet some pups. Volunteers from Paws for Friendship, a local pet therapy organization, will be in attendance.
- Total body fitness, 12 p.m., Center for Healthy Living – Join fitness instructor Decature Banker for an hour long fast-paced conditioning class with short high-intensity cardio intervals mixed with muscle strengthening movements. All movements and intensities can be modified for each participant. This free class is sponsored by the Center for Healthy Living. Pre-registration is not required. Those attending will need to check-in five minutes prior to class at the front desk.
Friday, April 28:
- Donut Stress, 7:30 a.m., Sorrell Center Alumni Commons, second floor – Start off Friday with a free donut (while supplies last).
- Plant potting, 11:30 a.m., Ruth and Bill Scott Student Plaza, green space – Attendees can plant a mini succulent or cactus to take home (while supplies last).
