UNMC Chancellor Jeffrey P. Gold, MD, is getting behind the mic for a new podcast that provides insights into medical and scientific issues of the day. The first episode is available for streaming.
“Health Care Heart to Heart with Dr. Jeff Gold” will dive into topics ranging from behavioral health to well-being to infectious diseases and more.
Dr. Gold said the mission of the podcast will be to expand understanding of scientific and health care issues.
“The podcast will offer an opportunity to address scientific and health care topics of interest and to engage in discussions with experts, both local and national, on issues of importance to the people of Nebraska and beyond,” Dr. Gold said. “We are excited to be able to provide a platform for thoughtful discussion of these topics.”
The podcast features Timothy Shriver, PhD, chairman of the board of the Special Olympics International, in its premiere episode.
Drs. Gold and Shriver discuss the evolution of Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month, the Special Olympics’ Global Campaign for Inclusion, the work of UNMC’s Munroe-Meyer Institute and other topics.
“My discussion with Dr. Shriver was informative and inspiring,” Dr. Gold said. “The work Special Olympics International is doing is important, and it was gratifying to hear his compliments on our work here at the UNMC Munroe-Meyer Institute.”
Dr. Shriver talked about how his mother inspired him to see this work as “not just about helping but about changing myself, opening my own eyes to the gifts of others.”
“We are not just a movement for people with intellectual disabilities anymore. We are also a movement from them, and the world needs to learn from them as much as it tries to help do things for them.”
“Health Care Heart to Heart” will post new podcasts about twice a month, as Dr. Gold speaks to national, regional and local health care leaders on issues of importance. On each new episode, Dr. Gold and his guests will share information, explore health care challenges and opportunities and leave listeners thinking about how they, too, can make a difference.
“Health Care Heart to Heart” episodes will be updated on the official podcast website and can be streamed on the following platforms: Spotify, Apple Podcasts and Google Podcasts.
