Medical school: Creighton University School of Medicine, Omaha
Matthew Becar was initially drawn to medicine because of his desire to make a tangible impact on people’s lives while leveraging his talents and passion for biology, chemistry and the sciences.
“Medicine blended together my academic interests in science with the chance to work with people instead of in a lab,” Becar said.
Becar chose to pursue a career in anesthesiology for the opportunity to perform various medical procedures while also learning to medically manage extremely sick patients.
“I was drawn to the cardiopulmonary pathophysiology and the way anesthesiologists manipulate and control the physiology to keep patients safe,” he said.
As a graduate of Creighton University, Becar and his family are familiar with all Omaha has to offer and are excited they don’t have to relocate. He said he is most looking forward to meeting his co-residents and building a high-functioning team with them.
