The Research IT Office is announcing there will be no annual cost for UNMC researchers to access and create projects using the Research Electronic Data Capture (REDCap) application, effective as of Jan. 1, 2023. More complex assistance and services will be made available at a standardized billable rate of $60 per hour.
Feedback received from users and research leaders identified the cost of the tool as a barrier to accessibility. New support and sponsorship from the UNMC Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research, UNMC Office of the Vice Chancellor for Business, Finance and Business Development, UNMC College of Medicine and the Great Plains IDeA-CTR enable the UNMC research community to access REDCap and create projects free of charge.
A simplified breakdown of REDCap services, and whether they are provided at no cost or for an hourly fee, is provided below. Please visit the RITO website for more details and a full listing of covered services.
Sponsored REDCap services with no charge to UNMC users include:
- Annual hosting for new and ongoing projects.
- Review and approval of most project requests (moves to production, changes, deletions, API key issuance and basic internal/external user rights management).
- Project backup and reactivation of recent old/offline projects (within 30 days).
- Initial one hour consultation for funding proposals and guidance on estimating REDCap costs for budget proposals.
- Simple, brief technical consultations handled via email.
Billable REDCap services ($60 per hour) include:
- Assistance with designing, configuring and setup of REDCap projects from scratch, reviewing/revising an existing project or distributing surveys to study participants..
- Project recovery and reactivation of old/deleted/offline projects (more than 30 days old).
- Adding/managing more than 12 external users, per sponsor, per year.
- More complex or in-depth technical consultations (takes longer than 10 mins to respond via email, more than three basic inquiries per month and any assistance provided over Zoom or phone).
- API-related technical support (beyond initial request/issuance of API key).
- Any other services not listed in the no-charge category.

REDCap is a secure, web-based application for the collection, management and analysis of research data. This UNMC-approved, HIPAA-compliant application is available to all UNMC faculty, staff and students, with the infrastructure and maintenance supported by UNMC’s Research IT Office (RITO).
