A draft of the 2024-2027 goals and strategies for UNMC now is available for review by the entire med center community.
“This draft plan reflects how we will implement our mission, vision and values and advance our university, collectively,” UNMC Chancellor Jeffrey P. Gold, MD, said. “Although we have reduced the total number of strategies, we have strengthened many others based upon the extensive input that we have received. The opportunity to ‘stress test’ each goal and strategy in multiple future scenarios greatly helps us to optimize the sustainability of the planning process.
“We encourage the entire UNMC community to review the plan and provide feedback so that the final plan reflects our shared vision for the future as broadly as possible.”
UNMC students, staff and faculty are invited to provide input by March 17, including suggested revisions to the specific goals and strategies. Feedback and recommendations will be reviewed prior to revision, discussion and final approval of the updated plan by the Chancellor’s Council.
The plan outlines eight overarching goals:
- Educational learner focus;
- Research scope and prominence;
- Clinical excellence;
- Community engagement;
- Diversity, equity and inclusivity;
- Economic development;
- Organizational culture; and
- Organizational leadership.
In December, the strategies were reviewed by Chancellor’s Council and other UNMC leaders. Each of the strategies were evaluated for their viability under a future utopian scenario, a future dystopian scenario and recommendations for changing or eliminating strategies.
Jane Meza, PhD, associate vice chancellor for strategic planning, said the draft includes changes recommended by the stress test. Some strategies were removed because they were not deemed sustainable based on the stress test results. All initiatives connected to strategies that were removed will be reviewed and mapped to other strategies. The draft also incorporates recommendations from working groups that looked at both the campus culture survey and IT challenges and opportunities in education and research.
