Forum is Thursday for nursing dean finalist Dr. Rowser

The fifth of five finalists vying for the role of UNMC College of Nursing dean will be on the Omaha campus this week.

Faculty, staff and students are invited to hear from Mayola Rowser, PhD, DNP, the Jack Taylor Dean and Professor of Goldfarb School of Nursing at Barnes-Jewish College, during a campus forum Thursday, Feb. 16. The forum will be from noon to 12:45 p.m. CT in the UNMC Center for Nursing Science, Room 40120, and also will be available via Zoom. Attendees can access the Zoom link via this intranet page and ask questions during the forum.

Dr. Rowser has served as dean and chief academic officer at Barnes-Jewish College in St. Louis since May 2019. She joined Goldfarb from the University of Southern Indiana, where she held a number of positions over the years including director of graduate studies, assistant dean and director of community health centers. While at USI, she also served the College of Nursing and Health Professions as assistant dean and chair of the Doctor of Nursing Practice Program, assistant professor of nursing and as project coordinator, project director and principal investigator for a Health Resource Services Administration grant. She is a certified family nurse practitioner and a psychiatric nurse practitioner.

In addition to Dr. Rowser, the finalists include:

  • Lepaine Sharp-McHenry, DNP, dean of the College of Natural, Behavioral and Health Sciences at Simmons University, who visited campus Jan. 5. 
  • Hyochol “Brian” Ahn, PhD, associate dean for research at Florida State University’s College of Nursing, who visited campus Jan. 13.
  • Carmen Giurgescu, PhD, Chatlos Foundation Endowed Chair and associate dean of research at the University of Central Florida College of Nursing, who visited campus Jan. 17.
  • Cynthia Dougherty, PhD, vice chair of research at the University of Washington School of Nursing, who visited campus Jan. 20.
