McMorris is keynote speaker at Monday’s MLK event

Kenny McMorris, CEO of Charles Drew Health Center

Join the Nebraska Medicine Inclusion and Diversity Office and the UNMC Office of Inclusion for the annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day Program on Monday, Jan. 16, at noon. This year’s Power of Prevention program will honor Dr. King’s legacy and dream of equality and equity for all.

The keynote speaker will be Kenny McMorris, a veteran health care executive, innovator, influencer and strategist who has served since 2014 as chief executive officer of Charles Drew Health Center. McMorris oversees business, community and primary care operations for the health center consisting of a $22 million operating budget, more than 250 employees, 14,000 patients and nearly 50,000 outpatient service visits annually.

The second annual recipient of UNMC and Nebraska Medicine’s Unsung Hero Award will be announced during the program. The Unsung Hero Award celebrates colleagues at UNMC, Nebraska Medicine or Clarkson College who give back and serve others through volunteerism, service, outreach, mentorship or encouragement, in the workplace or their community.

Jacqueline Hankins Berry, a community engagement administrative associate at the Munroe-Meyer Institute, was named as the inaugural recipient last year. Hankins Berry is the co-chair of the institute’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Council and contributes to DEI efforts across the med center.
