As seen on campus: UNMC’s seasonal traditions

This winter rekindled UNMC’s seasonal traditions, and photographer Kent Sievers from the UNMC Department of Strategic Communications has captured glimpses of the preparations and events for the campus to see.

Chancellor’s Holiday Tea – To Go

The 2022 Chancellor’s Holiday Tea – To Go was held in the atrium of the Wigton Heritage Center on Dec. 6. The order of the day: Sugar.

UNMC ice rink

The UNMC ice rink at the Ruth and Bill Scott Student Plaza reopened to the UNMC community and general public for skating from Dec. 3 to Feb. 5. But it took preparation to return the ice rink to form. UNMC’s Mick Ridgway, in blue coat, and Ben Semisch worked on that in the 20-degree temperatures of Nov. 18.

Holiday Skate Day

With the ice in place, UNMC held its annual Holiday Skate Day on Dec. 9. Behind the scenes, the strategic communications events staff of (from left) Candace Peteler, Kacie Baum and Kelsey Scroggin made the skate day and other seasonal events happen.

Chancellor’s holiday message

Chancellor Jeffrey P. Gold, MD, released his holiday message on Dec. 19, but strategic communications’ creative talents Chris Christen, Rich Watson, Joy Beatie, John Keenan, Tom Waples and Kent Sievers were underway well before then. Dr. Gold read his holiday message at The Durham Museum on Dec. 12, and in the background, Goldie made an appearance.

Happy holidays and seasons of good cheer, from the UNMC Department of Strategic Communications.
