Course required for clinic staff working with liquid nitrogen

To further enhance the safety of colleagues who work with and around liquid nitrogen, a brief required education module has been created for them to complete.

The objective of the education training is to have standardized processes and procedures to help ensure ambulatory clinic staff and providers use, handle, store and dispose of liquid nitrogen safely, before and after performing patient procedures.

To meet OSHA regulations, all ambulatory clinic and immediate care clinic staff and providers that handle liquid nitrogen must complete a required eight-minute Apollo liquid nitrogen education module by Nov. 30.

  • Clinics that utilize liquid nitrogen will be required to purchase approved PPE and equipment per policy EC24.
    • Clinics and health centers that use/store liquid nitrogen include:
      • Bellevue, Brentwood, Chalco, Old Market, Eagle Run, Elkhorn, Fontenelle, Grand Island, Plattsmouth, Midtown, Millard, University of Nebraska-Lincoln and University of Nebraska at Omaha health centers.
      • Dermatology, urology and outpatient surgery at Lauritzen Outpatient Center.
      • Family medicine, internal medicine at Durham Outpatient Center.
      • Ear, nose and throat, facial plastics, multispecialty clinic and plastics, all at Village Pointe.
  • Clinic staff and providers to follow standardized process for safe use, handling and disposing of liquefied nitrogen as outlined in policy EC24.
