Nebraska State Sen. Myron Dorn took one look at the SONY Infinity Wall in the Davis Global Center and smiled.
“Do you get football on this screen?” he asked.
Sen. Dorn, who represents legislative District 30, toured the Davis Global Center’s iEXCEL program on Sept. 28.
Sen. Dorn explored educational technology, such as the 2D interactive digital iWalls, the holographic theater and the five-sided laser cave, accessible to UNMC students.
“Who would have thought 30 years ago that we would be here today?” he asked.
Representing a district that includes Beatrice and Gage County, Sen. Dorn took a particular interest in how this technology is being used to serve rural parts of the state.
“This work is critically important,” he said. “Just because you live 40 miles away from the hospital doesn’t mean you shouldn’t get adequate care.”
Sen. Dorn met with UNMC Chancellor Jeffrey P. Gold, MD, and heard updates on the UNMC-University of Nebraska at Kearney rural health education project and the Behavioral Health Education Center of Nebraska.
Leaving the Davis Global Center, he expressed excitement for the work that was being done throughout the state.
To the UNMC community, he said: “Keep up the good work. I think you are doing fantastic. I can’t wait to come back in a year or two and see what’s changed. You may think that you’re just doing a little bit here and there, but you are making huge strides. It’s so exciting.”
