Felesia Bowen, PhD, will deliver the 10th annual Anna Marie Jensen Cramer Memorial Lectureship in Women’s and Children’s Family Health and Nursing on Nov. 10.

The lecture will be held in person, at the Center for Nursing Science, from 2 to 3 p.m. CT with a welcome beginning at 1:45 p.m. CT. The event also will be broadcast via Zoom for participants in Kearney, Norfolk, Lincoln and Scottsbluff. Nurses and other interested health care professionals are invited to join at no cost.

Dr. Bowen is a professor and the inaugural associate dean for diversity, equity and inclusion at the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Nursing. She is an expert in community-based participatory research methods. Her translational research focuses on the major health equity conditions of childhood asthma and trauma in urban communities. She shares her expertise at national and international conferences.

Dr. Bowen is the lead author of “Providing Proactive Interventions for Vulnerable Children and Their Families with a Schema of Toxic Stress.”

Her lecture will:

  • Explain the difference between advantage and privilege;
  • Describe the four types of racism and how they affect health outcomes; and
  • Utilize interventions within an ecological framework, the Toxic Schema of Stress (TSS), to identify stressors and improve health outcomes in vulnerable children and their families.
