October marks awareness month for national disability employment and Down syndrome

October shines awareness on two issues of importance to the Munroe-Meyer Institute: National Disability Employment Awareness Month and Down Syndrome Awareness Month.

National Disability Employment Awareness Month recognizes how individuals with disabilities contribute to the workforce and the economy. This year’s theme is “Disability: Part of the Equity Equation.”

For more information on the month, see MMI’s online toolkit.

Down Syndrome Awareness Month raises awareness and celebrates the many abilities of loved ones with Down syndrome, according to the National Down Syndrome Society. It seeks to break down barriers and focus on promoting advocacy for people with Down syndrome, the organization says.
