The Olson Center for Women’s Health has announced this year’s virtual book club, an offering from the Wellness Through Doing series on hobbies for mental health. If you have never participated in a book club before, you are invited to try it out and learn the joy of reading and sharing insights with others.
This year’s book is titled, “Presence: Bringing Your Boldest Self to Your Biggest Challenges,” and is written by Amy Cuddy, a social psychologist and leadership teacher previously at Harvard Business School. Cuddy is known for her 2012 TED Talk on body language.
More than half a million copies of “Presence” have been sold. The book discusses how far too often people approach life’s biggest hurdles with dread and leave with regret. But by learning to access personal power, people can achieve “presence,” in which they stop worrying about the impression they make on others and start being their best selves.
The book club discussion will be led by Jess King, education and research services librarian at the McGoogan Health Sciences Library, and Peter Pellerito, fitness specialist at the UNMC Center for Healthy Living.
Beginning Sept. 8, the book club will meet every Thursday from noon to 12:30 p.m. via Zoom for a total of four meetings. Members are expected to attend every meeting. There is no cost to participate in the book club aside from the cost of the required book.
