Stu Dornan, a candidate for the District 20 seat in the Nebraska Legislature, toured the UNMC Omaha campus on Aug. 3.

Dornan met with UNMC Chancellor Jeffrey Gold, MD, at the Wigton Heritage Center, toured the Wigton center and visited the McGoogan Health Sciences Library, including its rare books section.

Also at the Wigton Heritage Center, Dornan discussed the UNMC crime laboratory with Joseph Khoury, MD, chair of the UNMC Department of Pathology and Microbiology, and Jesse Cox, MD, PhD, an assistant professor and director of molecular forensics at UNMC.

At the Davis Global Center, Dornan saw the simulation technology of the iEXCEL program and a SIM-NE mobile medical simulation truck.

Dornan said the tour was very professionally done and that everyone was interested in helping him learn a lot. In addressing the UNMC community, Dornan said, “The baseline is caring for and loving your neighbors, and oftentimes in the medical field, you do that to strangers. I don’t think there’s any higher calling of being in a position to serve others, in times often of deep distress.”
