New faculty spotlight: Spriha Pavuluri, MD

Spriha Pavuluri, MD, is a new faculty member at UNMC.

  • Name: Spriha Pavuluri, MD
  • Hometown: Dallas
  • Title and department at UNMC: Instructor, UNMC Department of Neurological Sciences

Professional interests: I am interested in learning the role of MEG (Magnetoencephalography) in the current landscape of neurology. I am hoping it can help with early diagnostics and interventions in several neurodegenerative and progressive neurological diseases.

How I fell in love with neurology: A good physician is a critical thinker, and neurology made me a critical thinker. Our understanding of how the nervous system works is still in the elementary stages, and there are a lot of chapters that are yet to be written. I am excited by the idea that I will be able to move the needle in our efforts to understand this field better.

Education:

  • MD, University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine
  • Residency, neurology, UNMC
  • Fellowship, epilepsy (ACGME accredited), UNMC

Memberships:

  • American Academy of Neurology
  • American Epilepsy Society
  • American Clinical Neurophysiology Society

Three things people may not know about me:

  • I am a national award-winning artist (oil painting, graphite work).
  • I am a gold medalist in Sanskrit and Physics. I was a physics tutor all through high school, undergrad and medical school.
  • I am an avid gardener and grew vegetables for my whole neighborhood.
