Structural biology, biophysics workshop set for Aug. 11

The ninth Structural Biology and Molecular Biophysics Workshop will be held on Thursday, Aug. 11, in the Sorrell Center.

"We are excited to have five internationally recognized researchers in the field who will share their knowledge in this area," said Gloria Borgstahl, PhD, professor in the Eppley Institute. Dr. Borgstahl, along with Luis Marky, PhD, professor in the UNMC Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, are the workshop coordinators.

Presenting at the workshop will be:

  • Tom Kirchhausen, PhD, professor, Harvard Medical School
  • Aron Fenton, PhD, professor, University of Kansas Medical Center
  • Limei Zhang, PhD, assistant professor, University of Nebraska-Lincoln
  • Dan Herschlag, PhD, professor, Stanford University
  • Janice Robertson, PhD, assistant professor, Washington University

The workshop will take place in the Paustain Amphitheater (MCS3002) in the Sorrell Center. Registration is free, but space is limited. See more information or register at the workshop registration page.

A poster session will be held during the workshop with prizes awarded. Those interested in presenting a poster should indicate this on their registration. They then will be provided information on how to download an abstract template and how to upload an abstract as part of the registration email they receive.

In order to prepare for the workshop, a student-led journal club will be held on July 14, 15, 18, 20 and August 3, Dr. Borgstahl said. The July 14 and 15 sessions will be held in the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center’s Yanney Conference Center in the ground floor auditorium, BCC 0.12.101. The remaining journal club meetings will take place in the Center for Drug Discovery, PDD 1026.

A Zoom option also is available for all journal club sessions. Zoom links will be provided on the workshop website under "Journal Clubs." The links will be made available on the day of the journal club.

"After taking a couple of years off due to the pandemic, we are thrilled to be able to gather again and share, learn and build relationships," Dr. Borgstahl said. "Dr. Marky and I encourage all on campus who have an interest in structural biology to attend and take advantage of the opportunity to engage with these knowledgeable speakers who are leaders in the field."
