How long is your training program and how long have you been at UNMC?

Med-Peds residency is four years long, and I have completed my first year.

What do you like the most about your training program? The people. I feel blessed to work with caring and humble faculty who are friends, mentors and teachers. Additionally, I have incredible and supportive co-residents across the med-peds, internal medicine and pediatrics residencies. These people have become like family and make training at UNMC a wonderful experience.

What challenges do you foresee in graduate medical education in the future?

Our goal is to provide patient-centered care; one of the challenges facing the health care system, and thus graduate medical education, is the amount of payer requirements that negatively impact patient care and learning how to advocate for our patients in spite of these challenges.

List some accomplishments that you are proud of:

  • Running a marathon.
  • Getting into medical school.
  • Representing Creighton University School of Medicine at the AAMC.
  • Starting a mentoring program for teens with special needs/disabilities.

Tell us three things about you that others may not know:

  • I have traveled to six of seven continents.
  • I worked in advertising before deciding to pursue medicine.
  • I have climbed to the top of the Sydney Harbour Bridge (Sydney, Australia).
