Manager’s message: How lucky am I?

Christy Williams

Twenty-five years ago, I walked into the Munroe-Meyer Institute.

I had no idea then how lucky I was – that I would get to spend my career working with a truly extraordinary group of individuals who serve an even more extraordinary group of clients. My favorite part of MMI has always been the families we serve – and to be able to guide them and provide a service for them is a privilege I do not take likely.

At MMI, I have worked with psychologists, geneticists, providers at the Center for Autism Spectrum Disorders – and it has been a blessing. Throughout, customer service – delivered on a level that corresponds to the fine quality of clinical care our colleagues provide – always has been my No. 1 priority.

Now I begin a new role, as the manager of MMI’s Patient Information Office. This role allows me to lead the team that most often is the first contact for our families. Our goal is to provide customer service and get patients scheduled in a timely manner, and although sometimes the demand outweighs the availability, the team works diligently to get our families the services they need.

As MMI continues to expand and grow, I see the PIO team playing an important role in that expansion.  PIO will continue to be the first point of contact for families, as well as referring physicians, and we will continue to streamline the registration process to better serve clients.  We have a beautiful new building that is allowing us to increase our services and expand, and I cannot wait to see what the next couple of years hold.

I always tell people I am lucky — because at the end of every day, I know I made a difference in someone’s life.

How many people are lucky enough to say that? I get to go to work – with a group of colleagues who are just as committed as I am — and together, we make this happen every day.

Thank you, MMI. For making a difference. For allowing me to be a part of that.

How lucky am I?
