Andrea Auer, clinic supervisor and dental assistant, College of Dentistry Omaha Dental Clinic.

Andrea Auer, the clinic supervisor and a dental assistant at the College of Dentistry Omaha Dental Clinic, received the UNMC Silver U award in May for going above and beyond in her position.

Her nominator said,

"Andrea is always active in improving clinic operations, activities, scheduling and resident learning. She shares ideas and implements plans on a daily basis to transform our growing clinic operations and achieve high standards. She works well with a diverse group of residents, staff and patients and ensures they feel respected and valued. She provides clear leadership and direction to those she manages."

"Andrea has worked hard over many years to see that the clinic meets the highest standards of safety and quality. Even through the challenge of closure and relaunch of patient care during the pandemic, she has provided leadership to keep a safe and positive atmosphere. She works before and after hours and goes above and beyond expectations."

"She is always eager to help others and her empathy is a great comfort to patients and colleagues. The time and effort she gives to our special needs patients is immeasurable. The listening and support she shares with the staff she manages is vital to the development of a team atmosphere and employee retention at our clinic."

An Interview with Andrea

Years at UNMC: I have been with UNMC for 12 years. I worked in the College of Dentistry Surgical Specialties Clinic for two years and in the Omaha Dental Clinic for ten years.

Why I enjoy working at UNMC: There are lots of reasons why I enjoy my job here at UNMC, but a few of my favorite reasons are:

  • I get to work with and learn so much from different staff dentists and residents.
  • I love working with residents. Seeing their progress and growth throughout the year is very rewarding.
  • Going to the OR to provide dental treatment for patients is something that I am very proud to be a part of.
  • One of my best memories is having input in and watching our clinic go through a remodel and expansion.

Three things most people don't know about me:

  • I have my cosmetology license.
  • I have two English Bulldogs named Lola and Gus.
  • My very first time I was in an a airplane, I jumped out! And, yes, I would skydive again!
