Douglas County Commissioner Chris Rodgers, who also is president of the Douglas County Board of Health, recently toured UNMC, meeting with Chancellor Jeffrey P. Gold, MD, and touring the iEXCEL program in the Davis Global Center.

Commissioner Rodgers said he was interested in visiting iEXCEL to keep up to date on new programs and technologies in the medical center’s experiential learning center.

"I’ve heard a lot about it," Commissioner Rodgers said. "It’s been two years since COVID, so there have been a lot of hands-on advancement and things learned. I was curious to look through this facility, particularly because of my role on the board of health, to have an understanding how we can work to be prepared for the future."

The commissioner said he was not surprised by the level of innovation and technology at the center, and he stressed the importance of the preparation the center helps provide for Nebraska’s health professionals.

"It’s better to be prepared when there’s an opportunity than have an opportunity and not be prepared," he said.

Commissioner Rodgers thanked the med center community for its service during the COVID pandemic.

"There’s a light at the end of the tunnel, in regards to what opportunities lie ahead post-pandemic if we can make it through this," he said. "We can use all the technology and things learned here to be prepared and be the epicenter to helping the nation in the future."
