‘I Love NU’ week starts March 21

"I Love NU" Day will be March 23 at the Nebraska State Capitol.

Students, faculty, staff and friends and supporters of the University of Nebraska System are invited to participate in the fifth annual "I Love NU" Day on Wednesday, March 23, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Nebraska State Capitol in Lincoln.

The event is an opportunity for individuals to show support for the university and visit with state senators about the work and impact of the NU System’s four campuses. All members of the public are welcome.

The day will begin with welcoming remarks from state senators and university leadership, including President Ted Carter. Attendees will gather in the legislative chamber balcony to be recognized and then will have time to speak with senators in the Rotunda, engage with other university supporters or listen to legislative debate.

As part of the 2022 celebration, participants can enjoy a "University Unity" ice cream flavor created by the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s Dairy Store. The ice cream will be available at the Capitol on the day of the event.

Faculty and staff who attend the event during regular work hours should use vacation or banked/floating holiday time and must receive approval for time off from a supervisor.

Along with the in-person event on March 23, supporters are encouraged to participate in virtual campus celebrations on social media during the week of March 21 through 25. A complete schedule of events is available on the "I Love NU" Week webpage, and additional updates will be provided in an "I Love NU" Day event page on Facebook.

In addition to participating in the scheduled "I Love NU" events, members of the university community can show their support by:

  • Reaching out to state senators via email or phone to share their stories and discuss the importance of higher education.
  • Signing up to be an NU Advocate to be among the first to know about legislative developments that impact the university and learn about how and when to get engaged.
  • Following the University of Nebraska on Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn for news and updates and using the #NUforNE hashtag when sharing stories of the university’s impact on social media.
