The online presentation will be held Tuesday, Feb. 15, from noon to 1 p.m.

The gallbladder is a small organ in the digestive system that stores bile, which assists in breaking down fat in food. Sometimes it can become diseased, and issues can develop: gallstones (hardened stones that form in the gallbladder), acute cholecystitis (inflammation of the gallbladder), gallstone pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas caused by gallstones) and cholangitis (inflammation of the bile duct). In some cases, polyps and cancer can occur in the gallbladder. Dr. Malik also will discuss criteria for diagnosing and managing functional gallbladder disease in adults.

Though the lecture is free, cost for nursing credit is $10. Nursing credit is earned by watching the live stream of the virtual presentation. Nurses should claim credit only for the actual time spent participating in this activity.
