The UNMC Division of Student Success will hold a donation drive in support of the Maverick Food Pantry from Nov. 15-23.
The Maverick Food Pantry supports the UNMC and University of Nebraska at Omaha communities with food and personal hygiene products and connections to other area resources. It is located at UNO’s Dodge Campus in the Barbara Weitz Community Engagement Center.
To participate in the donation drive, visit the University of Nebraska Foundation website and select “Maverick Food Pantry Excellence Fund” in the drop-down menu for “Choose a Fund.” Donations received during the drive will be used to purchase and fill a deep freezer for the pantry as well as purchase halal food items.
“The Maverick Food Pantry has been able to function at full capacity largely due to the generous donations we receive,” said Madeline St. Clair, Maverick Food Pantry coordinator. “If you feel led to give, please know that even $1 or one item donated makes a direct impact in a student’s life.”
The Maverick Food Pantry also will host a pop-up snack shop on Nov. 22 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Michael F. Sorrell Center for Health Science Education atrium. UNMC students can fill snack bags with up to five items, including granola bars, fruit snacks, trail mix, gluten-free and dairy-free snacks. The goal is to give away 100 bags of snacks and raise awareness of the food pantry as a free resource to UNMC students.
