Susan Kraft Mann appointed as interim vice chancellor

Susan Kraft Mann

Susan Kraft Mann, assistant vice chancellor and director of budget and fiscal analysis at UNMC, has been named the interim vice chancellor for business, finance and business development, pending approval by the NU Board of Regents, Chancellor Jeffrey P. Gold, MD, announced today.

A 21-year veteran of UNMC, Kraft Mann will assume the role on Nov. 1. The Board of Regents will consider the recommended interim appointment at its Dec. 3 meeting.

"Ms. Kraft Mann has been an invaluable member of the Business and Finance team for more than two decades, and I’m thrilled that she has agreed to serve in this interim capacity," Dr. Gold said. "Susan certainly has the respect of UNMC’s senior leadership, with whom she has worked extensively on their budgeting and strategic planning issues. I look forward to working with her even more extensively over the coming months."

A 1990 graduate of the University of Nebraska at Omaha, Kraft Mann first joined UNMC as a financial analyst in 2000. She was named assistant manager in 2002 and manager in 2006. From 2010-2018, she served as the director of budget and fiscal analysis. Kraft Mann earned her MBA from UNO in 2020.

In 2018, Kraft Mann was named an assistant vice chancellor. In this role, Kraft Mann works with Dr. Gold, the vice chancellors and each of the deans and major business units to determine opportunities for savings and revenue generation, such as new contracts, new collaborations and other potential new revenue sources.

"I am truly humbled and honored to be given this opportunity to serve as the interim vice chancellor," Kraft Mann said. "The university is a leader in transformative education, ground-breaking research and critical patient care, and I am proud to help lead this great institution. I look forward to working more closely with Chancellor Gold and others in the days ahead."

"Susan has been a trusted advisor for the past three years," said Doug Ewald, who has served as vice chancellor since 2018. "Her institutional knowledge, education and detailed approach to decision-making position her to fulfill this role."

Dr. Gold recently formed a committee, which has already met, to lead a search for a permanent vice chancellor of business, finance and business development.  That person will replace Ewald, who will become the executive associate athletic director/chief financial officer at Husker Athletics on Nov. 1.
