A new version of the two-factor Duo mobile app has arrived. Some already may have noticed a new look to Duo when opening the app. However, the functionality of it remains the same. If your Duo app hasn’t updated, don’t worry, it will update itself.
Important changes you’ll notice on the updated Duo app:
- A refreshed, more user-friendly interface
- The location of the approve buttons have been aligned with other common approval messages
- Additional security information will appear more prominently on the screen
Phone calls, SMS text messages verification on Duo
When using Duo and needing to approve verification, a push notification to your cell phone is preferred.
The phone call and SMS text message option provides the least amount of security for second factor authentication and also incurs additional charges for each call or message, which have to be absorbed by the organization.
In addition to reducing ongoing costs, the Duo Mobile App provides you important information to keep your accounts safe and secure. Within the Duo Mobile app, you’ll receive general location information on the service and where the login requesting two-factor authorization originated from.
Use this information to verify the service and location shown are what and where you are actually logging in from. (Please note: if you use Prisma to connect, your location may show up as another central US city, like Chicago or Denver.)
As always please Deny all suspicious logins and logins you did not initiate and report them in the Duo Mobile App and by calling the IT Help Desk at 402.559.7700.
