The UNMC, Nebraska Medicine and University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) placed first in the 2021 Corporate Cycling Challenge. Winners are based on the number of miles a team accumulates.

This year, the UNO team joined the UNMC/Nebraska Medicine team, which won in 2016, 2018, 2019 and 2020. Tour distances included 10-, 25- and 42-mile options.

"I like that the Corporate Cycling Challenge emphasizes participation more than performance," said Peter Pellerito, UNMC Center for Healthy Living Fitness specialist and Corporate Cycling Challenge team captain. "Although they offer a gran fondo option, most of the riders choose the non-competitive tours. With distances starting at 10 miles, it’s a way to enjoy the opportunity to ride and support the Eastern Nebraska Trails Network."

Due to COVID-19, the event began and ended at the Capitol District Plaza at 11th and Capitol streets with bikers starting independently. More than 1,500 riders biked more than 35,000 miles. Proceeds will be donated to the Eastern Nebraska Trails Network, a non-profit organization for trail development in greater Omaha and eastern Nebraska.

UNMC winners of the $50 and $100 gift cards provided by Metro Federal Credit Union were Melissa Collins and Cindy Norton, respectively.

Next year’s 32nd Annual Corporate Cycling Challenge is scheduled for Aug. 21.
