Jennifer Parker, MD, has been named acting division chief of the UNMC Department of Internal Medicine-Division of General Internal Medicine while a national search is conducted. Former division chief, Tom Tape, MD, recently retired.
Deb Romberger, MD, Henry J. Lehnhoff Professor and chair of the UNMC Department of Internal Medicine, said she is pleased and grateful that Dr. Parker is willing to take on the leadership role.
"Her clinical and education leadership experience will bring valuable insights to the division and department," Dr. Romberger said.
Dr. Parker, who joined UNMC as a member of the internal medicine/pediatrics staff in 2003, is board-certified in both internal medicine and pediatrics. She served as the internal medicine/pediatrics program director from 2005-2018.
"Dr. Tape was such a wonderful leader of our division and, although it's humbling to step into his role, I am embracing this opportunity," said Dr. Parker, also an associate professor. "I am looking forward to working with the members of our division. We have such talented physicians, educators and researchers and it will be an honor to work with each toward their career goals."
Dr. Parker graduated from the UNMC College of Medicine in 1999 and completed her residency training in combined internal medicine/pediatrics at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, where she also served as chief resident. She sees patients and staffs resident clinics at Nebraska Medicine’s Fontenelle and Midtown clinics and teaches Phase 2 students on their internal medicine core rotations.
Thrilled to see Dr. Parker's leadership recognized! We appreciate the long friendship between general internal medicine and psychiatry in patient care.
