Scammers may be targeting med center employees

Several Nebraska Medicine and UNMC personnel recently have been contacted by callers claiming to be with the Douglas County Sheriff’s office.

The callers falsely claim that the med center employee has committed federal violations for failing to appear in court after being subpoenaed to be an expert witness.

An campus safety officer cautioned that, as school is about to begin, there normally is an increase in phone and email scams prompting individuals to provide money for services; purporting to be from Social Security or law enforcement; or employing other deceptive tactics.

If someone has been contacted in this manner, they can contact Mark Noonan with the UNO/UNMC Department of Public Safety at 402-554-6264.
