Beginning June 21, the UNMC community will be required to document that they are fully vaccinated for COVID-19 or have declined the vaccine.
By requiring documentation of vaccine status, UNMC leaders say they are better able to protect the campus community, including visitors and patients.
“We continue to recommend that everyone be vaccinated against COVID-19,” said UNMC Chancellor Jeffrey P. Gold, MD. “The safety of our campus remains our highest priority.”
Individuals who choose to remain unvaccinated or unwilling to document their status will be required to mask at all times while on UNMC campuses. Masks are still required in Nebraska Medicine clinical areas. Individuals who choose to remain unvaccinated or unwilling to document their status also may be denied the opportunity to participate in clinical rotations and educational endeavors at outside partner institutions. Many of UNMC’s clinical partners now require proof of immunization against COVID as a condition of performing service and/or academic rotations in their clinics and on their wards.
The documentation requirement affects all UNMC faculty, staff, fellows, residents, interns and students. Individuals will document their vaccine status in employee health or student health records.
More information will be sent mid-June regarding the confidential, online UNMC immunization form.
All new incoming/onboarding personnel are required to download the 1-Check UNMC application and use the app each day they are present on a UNMC campus until they are fully vaccinated. Personnel also are encouraged to upload their CDC-issued COVID vaccination card to the 1-Check app for purposes of mobile documentation.
Campus leaders strongly encourage unvaccinated individuals to accept vaccination as soon as possible. More information about vaccine appointments is available from the Douglas County Health Department or the relevant local health department in your jurisdiction.

Are we still able to get the shot here on campus?
I have been vaccinated through a clinical trial for the Novavax vaccine, in which all participants were offered blinded crossover. I have documentation stating I have completed the crossover. Will this suffice as proof of vaccination?
Yes, that will suffice as documentation. Thank you for participating in a clinical trial!
We recommend the use of Health Tracking System for individuals that did Not receive their vaccine through UNMC/Nebraska Medicine.
For UNMC go to info.Unmc.edu – MENU – Services – Health Tracking System
For Nebraska Medicine employees go to the now.nebraskamed.com – QuickLinks – Health Tracking System (COVID-19, Influenza & TB) and document your status
Epic is our electronic health record for patient care. The Health Tracking System is where you would document your status if you did not receive the vaccine through us at one of our vaccine clinics.
