Alumni Association launches new online community

UNMC alumni and current students now have a dedicated online community to connect for networking, mentoring, interprofessional groups and discussion boards.

The community, UNMC Alumni Connections, is managed by the Alumni Relations Office and was created in partnership with industry leader PeopleGrove.

Individuals who are interested in signing up may visit the website and join the community via LinkedIn (if already signed up on that site), their UNMC NETID, or email.

Students especially are encouraged to take advantage of this resource to help build professional connections, find a mentor and further their professional growth while still at UNMC. Student users will then have the opportunity to continue utilizing the community after the transition from student to alumnus.

The site is set up so that students must make the first move when it comes to finding alumni to connect with on the platform. So if students are seeking an alumni mentor, they can use the site’s filters to search for users based on professional or personal interests and then reach out to connect.

For alumni, this is the opportunity to connect with classmates, others in a specific profession or other UNMC alumni, no matter their location/profession. This also is a connection point to students to offer insight through short or long-term mentoring.

Upon logging into the platform, it is recommended that new users build their individual profile based on their career, professional interests, availability to assist students and more. Upon completing a profile, users can explore the basics of the platform, visit the discussion boards to ask or answer a question, review the resources tab and join the group for their college.

“UNMC Alumni Connections uses key data points users submit when completing their profile to match individuals together with common interests, ranging from professional experience to their unique hobbies, said Catherine Mello, UNMC Alumni Director. “There is geographic matching as well as the ability to search for individual users and contact them within the platform, a service that we are now providing to the university community for the first time. We look forward to the ongoing connections this platform will facilitate as we grow and strengthen alumni and student relationships.”

For questions or assistance logging into the platform, individuals can reach out to Kat Hamilton in the Alumni Relations Office via email.
