Memorial service for Dr. Stothert set for April 5

UNMC and Nebraska Medicine colleagues, as well as friends and family, are invited to join a virtual celebration of the life of Joseph Stothert, MD, PhD, on April 5.

The longtime trauma surgeon and UNMC faculty member died unexpectedly at his home in Omaha on March 5. Dr. Stothert impacted the health system and university through his work, mentorship and friendship.

The ceremony will provide the opportunity for colleagues grieving Dr. Stothert to remember him together.

Colleagues are invited to join a private Zoom memorial service for Dr. Stothert on Monday, April 5 at 6:30 p.m.

The service will include several speakers from UNMC and Nebraska Medicine, as well as reflections from past colleagues, friends and family. Musicians from the Nebraska Medical Orchestra and general surgery resident Katharine Armstrong, MD, also will perform several arrangements.

To honor Dr. Stothert’s legacy, the Department of Surgery has created the Joseph Stothert MD, PhD Memorial Fund at the University of Nebraska Foundation. The fund will support opportunities to invite nationally known experts to lecture and showcase the work of the Division of Acute Care Surgery.
