House Officer Week Spotlight: Brad Eichhorn, MD

To celebrate the Department of Anesthesiology's House Officer Appreciation Week, Feb. 22-26, 2021, we meet one house officer from each class and learn a bit more about what makes them tick. Enjoy!

Name: Brad Eichhorn, MD
Year: CA1
Medical School: University of South Dakota
Hometown: Sioux Falls, SD

I am pursuing anesthesiology because: It combines several aspects of medicine that I enjoy into one specialty. I enjoy the procedural aspect of anesthesiology, while still being relied on to identify and address emergent situations anywhere our services are utilized. We have the opportunity to provide care to a wide variety of patients of all ages and are there to get them safely through a significant life event.

In my time here, I have most enjoyed: getting to know my coresidents and seeing everyone grow in their skills and knowledge as we progress through our training. Residency can be hard but having a supportive group of friends to work with makes a world of difference.

Three things you may not know about me are:

  • I majored in Spanish in undergrad and enjoy the opportunity to use it with many of my patients
  • I once found myself about 100 feet from a grizzly and her two cubs on a backpacking trip
  • My last name actually means squirrel in German.
